Guangzhou's second footbridge across the Pearl River is expected to start construction soon, a notice at the construction site on Ersha Island shows. The bridge is expected to connect the Ersha Island and Wuyang New Town (五羊新城), one of the city's most populated and prosperous regions at the north bank of the river.

With a length of approximate 120 meters, the project is positioned as a pedestrian bridge for sightseeing. Once completed, citizens and tourists can go for a stroll from the Wuyang New Town to the Ersh Island through the bridge, walk eastward along the green paths on the island and then reach Guangzhou's first cross-river footbridge (expected to be completed in June), which also links the city's landmark, Canton Tower.

Construction of the footbridge is projected to be completed in half a year. Currently, the greenway at the intersection of Qinglan Lu (晴澜路) and Pazhou Street (琶洲街) has been enclosed in preparation for the bridge construction.

One of the most popular spots for photographers and campers in Guangzhou, Ersha island offers serenity away from the city downtown with its flourishing expanses of flowers and distinctive parks, such as the Hongcheng Park (宏城公园), Haixinsha Asian Games Park and Ersha Island Sports Park.

The Ersha Island Sports Park lures more visitors after it took on a new look in last October. Intelligent devices are introduced to its brand-new smart equipment area to evaluate people's physique and give workout suggestions.
