Stories of High-Quality Development | Innovation is the oar and hard work is the sail

Narrator: Xu Xun, Vice President of Transfar Group

Thirty-nine years ago, our entrepreneurial journey began with nothing more than a large vat and a bicycle — producing and sell liquid soap. Today, we've achieved diversification, multi-brand growth, and global expansion, with operations in more than 130 countries and regions around the world.

Staying true to our roots while embracing innovation, transformation, and legacy has been the key to sustainable development for private enterprises.

Going global was a key step forward for us.

We've built the world's largest neodymium-based polybutadiene rubber factory. Last year, our new 120,000-tonne production line began operation, bringing our annual capacity to 270,000 tonnes.

Yet just 10 years ago, China was 100 percent dependent on imports for this high-performance tire rubber material.

In 2014, our R&D team made a bold commitment to tackle this problem. Three years later, we successfully produced our first piece of neodymium-based polybutadiene rubber. By 2020, we had pioneered a flexible, continuous production process for neodymium-based polybutadiene rubber, achieving full industrialization. Today, our neodymium-based polybutadiene rubber is exported to over 20 countries and regions.

Competing on the global stage has pushed us to continually elevate our capabilities, resulting in sustained growth and breakthrough achievements.

Transfar is a typical representative of Zhejiang's "sweet potato economy," which means an enterprise's headquarters are located locally in Zhejiang while its markets and resources are both outside the province.

Though a transition from a single business to diversified operations, we established a group management system. By embracing advanced management philosophies and technologies, we have established over 20 production bases and eight overseas R&D centers.

Today, we must proactively adapt to the changing times in our pursuit of becoming a world-class enterprise: shifting from market-driven to technology- and market-driven development, from traditional management to modern enterprise operations, and from expanding in scale to enhancing quality.

"On the shoulders of giants, one must see further." Private enterprises are entering a period of generational transition, as first-generation entrepreneurs begin to retire. For our younger generation, innovation is the oar and hard work is the sail. This is our moment — to forge ahead, become a world-class enterprise, and show our capabilities!
